Mid-Week Ministry: ROCK and Stepping Stones

We feel it is important for the church community to partner with parents in helping children realize that God is a part of their lives always and not just on Sundays.  To assist in that endeavor, we provide two mid-week ministry programs for our children to assist them in their faith journey by offering them a foundation for a relationship with Jesus.

ROCK and Stepping Stones will kickoff on Thursday, September 29, 2022 at 5:00 pm.

ROCK:       Our ROCK (Rock On Christian Kids) program, designed for kids in 3rd through 5th grade, meets weekly on Thursdays from  5:00-7:30 pm in Schulte Hall at 20 High St.

Each night we share a game, a Bible study, a craft, and a home cooked meal. During the last hour of the night, the children participate in either the ROCK Choir or the ROCK Caring Kids groups.  The Choir kids learn worship songs, learn about leading worship, and prepare for Christmas Eve worship and will deliver a musical message in the Spring.   Our music plans also include chimes, xylophones, and drums! The Caring Kids learn about serving others, in kid-appropriate ways, locally and internationally.

Here are some cast photos from a few of our past ROCK musicals:

Back to the Cross 2015
Holy Moses! 2019
Malice in the Palace 2018

Stepping Stones:       Our Stepping Stones program, designed children in 1st and 2nd grade, meets on Thursdays from 5:00-6:00 p.m. We will gather in Schulte Hall at 20 High St. and then move to the balconies overlooking the Little Tree lawn and playground. We hope to spark an interest in musical discovery, teach children the fundamentals of music, help them identify their God-given gifts, hear Bible stories and learn simple Biblical truths, and involve them in age-appropriate Service Projects.  This program, which is “more than a choir,” is a “stepping stone” on their faith journey which is also a step toward participation in our ROCK program as we mix Bible stories, crafts, games, and service into the weekly format!

Sunday Mornings

Nursery: On Sunday mornings, we provide Nursery care for children aged birth to 3 years old during worship services (8:30 and 11:00 am) and the education hour (9:45-10:45 am). Loving and consistent care is provided by our beloved Miss Linda assisted by adult volunteers.  The Nursery is located on the lower level of the Education building.

KinderWorship:    After the children’s message in worship, children in PreK(age 4) through 1st grade are invited to attend KinderWorship which provides supervised child care through the end of worship.  During this time, the children can play, color, watch a Christian movie, listen to music, and enjoy a light snack.  KinderWorship is held in Room 107 on the lower level of the Education building. You can find the KinderWorship registration form here: Registration Form KinderWorship 2022-2023

Sunday School:    On Sunday mornings, we gather for an hour of education beginning at 9:45 a.m. for all ages (Children (PreK(4)-5th grade); Youth (6th-12th grade);and  Young Adult/Adult).   Children may join the Sunday School classes at any time during the school year.      Here is the Sunday School Registration Online SS Registration 2022-2023

Our Children’s Ministry program at APC is thriving.  Our Sunday School program, beginning its 211th year, is the longest continually run Sunday school in rural America.  But, we are far from old and stodgy!  We are continually reevaluating our program to bring lessons to our children which are informative, insightful, inventive, and relevant.   Run by a devoted staff of volunteers, it is provided free of charge to all in our community!

During the same hour, there are one to three adult always interesting and inspiring Sunday School classes offered and we invite you to try one out as you model for your children the importance of continued education and growing in your own faith!

Sunday School

Sunday_School

Dear parents of elementary Sunday School children,

We hold you all in our prayers during this exciting time of new beginnings as your children return to school and, as a family, you settle into new routines.  Your APC family is also excited to be back in person for worship, Sunday School, and mid-week ministries!

  • Sunday School meets weekly from 9:45-10:45 am (drop off at 9:30)
  • Drop off and Pick up at their assigned classrooms.
  • Please park in the lot across the street from the sanctuary.

If it is your desire to have your child/ren attend Sunday School at APC, please complete the on-line registration form now using this link https://apc.breezechms.com/form/ElementarySS22-23 .

Knowing how many children to expect in our classes will greatly assist us in preparing our lessons and teaching space.

Communion Classes will be held for the 2022-2023 Second Grade class throughout the year.

Finally, in addition to Sunday School, a regular practice of worship is critical to the spiritual development of our children (and of our own).  We encourage you to join us at 11:00am Worship in the Sanctuary. We pray that, after spending time learning about God, you and your children will join us in worshiping God, our Father.

Looking forward to seeing you again!

Peace and prayers,

Maureen Harshman

We look forward to having you and your children join us on Sunday mornings as we go deeper into God’s Word, furthering our understanding of the immense love God has for each one us.

“But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it,  and how from infancy you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.”  2 Timothy 3:14-15

Vacation Bible School

Registration is now open for VBS 2022! For more information and to register a PARTICIPANT or as a VOLUNTEER, click here .https://vbspro.events/p/foodtruckpartyapcvbs2022

Every year we host a community Vacation Bible School for children.  This high-energy, Christ-centered program is offered annually during the last full week of June.  It is our largest children’s ministry event.

In 2021, our evening VBS returned! We met nightly during the week of June 21st around the theme of Rocky Railway: Jesus’ power pulls us through! As you can see from the photos, the kids and volunteers alike had a great time being together (outside) and sharing in the love of Jesus and fun of fellowship!

While VBS 2021 may have looked a little different, we still had the same purpose of sharing the love of Jesus with our kids! With their Crew Leaders, the kids visited Storytelling, Music, Games/Snack, and Craft stations.

Regardless of your church affiliation/denomination, your children are welcome to join us for a free week of fun, fellowship, and faith.

Contact Maureen Harshman with any questions.

Additional info: The Service Component of VBS

VBS is provide free of charge to the kids in our communities. There are, however,  community service components to our VBS:  We collect food and monetary donations for the Allentown Food Pantry.  During this time when so many in our community are in great need, we are connected and united in our faith and call to help others.  Many use this week as a focal point to teach our children about service and generosity. Thank you for your support.
