Sermon Series: The Story of Christmas

Sundays, Beginning 12/3
Every good story has certain elements. A striking setting. Compelling characters. A powerful plot. This Advent and Christmas, join us as we hear once again one the most captivating stories ever told. A story set in a small town named Bethlehem, in a cold stable where the animals slept. A story of shepherds, kings, angels, an angry ruler, a young couple, and the God of the universe entering our world as a newborn baby. A story – the story – which altered the course of history.”
Adult Education Series: The Birth Narratives

Sundays, Beginning 12/3
Great differences exist between Jesus’ birth narratives found in the Gospel of Matthew (1:18 – 2:23) and the Gospel of Luke (1:5 – 2:40). Some scholars suggest that these differences exist because the two authors wrote their accounts as literary overtures, sounding themes to be developed later in their narration of Jesus’s ministry—themes like Jesus as the New Moses (Matthew) and Jesus as Champion of the Poor (Luke). Over Advent, join Pastor Lindsay and local Presbyterian pastor, Rev. Dr. Byron Shafer, as they explore these claims and ideas.
