Children

We believe our children and youth are not only the future of the church: They are vital to the church of today.

sunday school

PreK - 5th Grade
Our Children’s Ministry program at APC is thriving. Our Sunday School program, beginning its 213th year, is the longest continually run Sunday school in rural America. But, we are far from old and stodgy! We are continually reevaluating our program to bring lessons to our children which are informative, insightful, inventive, and relevant. Run by a devoted group of volunteers,
it is provided free of charge to all in our community!

Sunday School meets weekly from 9:45 - 10:45am.
Drop off is at 9:30 in Schulte Hall.
Pick up is at 10:45 at their assigned classrooms.

communion class

2nd Grade
Communion Classes will be held for the 2024-2025 Second Grade class throughout the year. Children who are new to our Sunday School after 2nd grade are welcome to participate in the Communion Class.

stepping stones

Grades 1&2
Our Stepping Stones program, designed children in 1st and 2nd grade, meets weekly on Thursdays from 5:15 - 6:30pm. We will gather in Schulte Hall and then move to the balconies overlooking the Little Tree lawn and playground.

We hope to spark an interest in musical discovery, teach children the fundamentals of music, help them identify their God-given gifts, hear Bible stories and learn simple Biblical truths, and involve them in age-appropriate Service Projects.  This program, which is “more than a choir,” is a “stepping stone” on their faith journey which is also a step toward participation in our ROCK program as we mix Bible stories, crafts, games, and service into the weekly format!

Grades 3 - 5
Our ROCK (Rock On Christian Kids) program, designed for kids in 3rd through 5th grade,
meets weekly on Thursdays from 5:00 - 7:30pm in Schulte Hall.

Each night we share a game, a Bible study, a craft, and a home cooked meal. During the last hour of the night, the children participate in either the ROCK Choir or the ROCK Caring Kids groups.  The Choir kids learn worship songs, learn about leading worship, and prepare for Christmas Eve worship and will deliver a musical message in the Spring.   Our music plans also include chimes, xylophones, and drums! The Caring Kids learn about serving others, in kid-appropriate ways, locally and internationally.

Summer

Vacation Bible School

Every year we host a community Vacation Bible School for children.  This high-energy, Christ-centered program is offered annually during the last full week of June.  It is our largest children’s ministry event.

In 2024, we dove deep into our friendship with God! As you can see from the photos below, the kids and volunteers alike had a great time being together and sharing in the love of Jesus and fun of fellowship!

While the theme may change annually, the purpose remains the same: sharing the love of Jesus with our kids through Storytelling, Music, Games, Snacks, and Crafts!

Regardless of your church affiliation/denomination, your children (entering PreK through 6th Grade) are welcome to join us for a free week of fun, fellowship, and faith.

The Service Component of VBS
VBS is provide free of charge to the kids in our communities. There are, however,  community service components to our VBS:  We collect food and monetary donations for the Allentown Food Pantry.  During this time when so many in our community are in great need, we are connected and united in our faith and call to help others.  Many use this week as a focal point to teach our children about service and generosity. Thank you for your support.
