Imagine fleeing across the known world to avoid seeing your worst enemies forgiven. The story of Jonah reveals our human struggles with extending grace. Despite trying to run from His calling, Jonah learns that deliverance belongs to the Lord. God's relentless pursuit challenges us to confront our biases and view everyone with compassion. Faithwork Assignment:
Reflect on the story of Jonah and consider who the "Ninevites" are in your own life—those individuals or groups you might struggle to view as deserving of God's grace. Since Jonah realized his powerlessness in the belly of the fish and understood that deliverance belongs solely to God, take time to examine where you need to surrender control and trust in His saving power. Finally, remembering that we have received immense mercy just like the unforgiving servant, pray about how you can become a joyful instrument of His forgiveness to someone who has wronged you.
