Every June, we host a community Vacation Bible School for children currently age 4 through those entering 6th grade in September. This high-energy, Christ-centered program is offered annually during the last full week of June. It is our largest children’s ministry event.
Last year our evening VBS (6:15-8:45 pm) met nightly during the week of June 24th-June 28th (2019) around the theme of ROAR…Life is wild, God is Good! We “traveled” to the African plains and explored the Exodus story.
VBS 2020: It saddens us to report that, after much prayerful consideration, we have decided not to hold VBS this year. We have been blessed with a thriving, joyful, “kid-and-volunteer-FULL” ministry and do not, given the current situation, believe we can effectively provide this ministry to our children while maintaining “social distancing.”
However, we are currently planning an alternative, simple plan to keep us connected. A “COVID VBS 2020,“ if you will: Connecting Our Voices In Devotion! Each day, we will send home one or two dance videos of VBS Music Hits from the past few years! Along with a BRIEF video message, we hope this will help us stay connected as a community of believers and connected with our awesome Father.
Usually there are community service components to our VBS: We collect food for the Allentown Food Pantry and we collect donations for the Good Neighbor Fund. Although we are not physically together, during this time when so many in our community are in great need, we are connected and united in our faith and call to help others. If you still desire to use this week as a focal point to teach your children about service, we will gladly accept your food and monetary donations. Thank you for your generosity.
We look forward to being together again, raising our voices in praise, giving our minds to learn, and our hearts in service to the One who loves us unconditionally at VBS 2021! “Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.” Isaiah 40:31
