We believe our children and youth are not only the future of the church: They are vital to the church of today.
The mission of the Allentown Presbyterian Church is: In response to the grace of God, our mission is to grow a community of fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ to produce abundant spiritual fruit for the Kingdom of God
In line with the overall mission of the church, the mission of the children’s ministry is, in partnership with parents, to educate, inspire, and share the love of God with children as they begin their journey to a meaningful, spiritual, and mature relationship with Jesus Christ.

We are very excited about the 2016-2017 Sunday School year. We will begin our year with our Core Curriculum, teaching the kids beliefs, prayers, scripture, and worship elements specific to our faith. Each grade will pursue a different topic such as The Lord’s Prayer in 1st Grade, the Ten Commandments in 3rd Grade, and the Apostles’ Creed in 5th Grade.
For the second year, we’ll be using the Spark: Activate Faith curriculum. The kids will explore key stories and Biblical truths from the New and Old Testaments. The Spark curriculum includes what we feel is very important: fun AND substantive messages as every lesson is rooted firmly in the Bible. The related activities are lively and age appropriate helping us to accommodate the various ways that kids learn.
If you are looking for a place to get involved, opportunities exist for Large Group storytellers and/or scenery and props partners, as well as Sunday School Teachers. If you are interested, please reach out to Maureen Harshman (PreK-5th) at firstname.lastname@example.org.
We look forward to having you and your children join us on Sunday mornings as we go deeper into God’s Word, furthering our understanding of the immense love God has for each one us.
“But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.” 2 Timothy 3:14-15
SUNDAY MORNING OFFERINGS:
Each Sunday, we have two worship services, at 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. During these services, and during the education hour (9:45-10:45 am), we provide Nursery care for children aged 3 and under. Loving and consistent care is provided by our beloved Miss Margie and Mrs. Terri. The Nursery is located on the lower level of the Education building. You can find the nursery registration form here.
After the children’s message in worship, children in PreK(age 4) through 1st grade are invited to attend KinderWorship which provides supervised child care through the end of worship (approximately 8:45-9:30 and 11:15 to 12:00). During this time, the children can play, color, watch a Christian movie, listen to music, and enjoy a light snack. KinderWorship is located in our 4th Grade Sunday School classroom on the lower level of the Education building.
Between Sunday morning worship services, we have an hour of education beginning at 9:45 a.m. for all ages (Children (PreK(4)-5th grade); Youth (6th-12th grade);and Young Adult/Adult). Children may join the Sunday School classes at any time during the school year.
Our Children’s Ministry program at APC is thriving. Our Sunday School program, beginning its 207th year, is the longest continually run Sunday school in rural America. But, we are far from old and stodgy! We are continually reevaluating our program to bring lessons to our children which are informative, insightful, inventive, and relevant. Run by a devoted staff of volunteers, it is provided free of charge to all in our community!
During the same hour, there are one to three adult always interesting and inspiring Sunday School classes offered and we invite you to try one out as you model for your children the importance of continued education and growing in your own faith!
Little Tree Preschool is also located in and integrated into APC. Little Tree offers children ages 2 ½ to 5 years of age an opportunity to grow and develop in a Christian environment. If you are interested in learning more about Little Tree, please click on the logo to the right and/or contact Jill Kurzeja, the school’s director, at 609-259-9005 or email@example.com.
We feel it is important for the church community to partner with parents in helping children realize that God is a part of their lives always and not just on Sundays. To assist in that realization, we have two mid-week ministry programs for our children to assist them in their faith journey by offering them a foundation for a relationship with Jesus.
ROCK and Stepping Stones begin each year in mid-September.
2016 Kickoff date: 9/22/16
Our ROCK (Rock On Christian Kids) program, designed for kids in 3rd through 5th grade, meets weekly on Thursdays from 5:00-7:30 p.m. in Schulte Hall. Each night we share a game, a Bible study, a craft, and a home cooked meal! During the last hour of the night, the children participate in either the ROCK Choir or the ROCK Caring Kids groups. The Choir kids learn worship songs, learn about leading worship, and prepare for Christmas Eve worship and to deliver a musical message in the Spring. The Caring Kids learn about serving others, in kid-appropriate ways, locally and internationally.
For more information about ROCK, please click on the logo on the right.
Our Stepping Stones program, designed children in 1st and 2nd grade, meets on Thursdays from 5:00-6:00 p.m. in the Music room. We hope to spark an interest in musical discovery, teach children the fundamentals of music, help them identify their God-given gifts, hear Bible stories and learn simple Biblical truths, and involve them in age-appropriate Service Projects. This program, which is “more than a choir,” is a “stepping stone” on their faith journey which is also a step toward participation in our ROCK program as we mix Bible stories, crafts, games, and service into the weekly format!
